Israel Flies over Syrian President's Home
Breaking now...Israeli warplanes flew over the home of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Israeli officials said. The move apparently is aimed at pressuring the Syrian leader to help get a captured Israeli soldier released. CNN news alert

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) -- Israel turned up its pressure for the release of a captive soldier Wednesday, bombing a Hamas training camp in Gaza and sending its warplanes low over the house of Syrian President Bashar Assad, who has sheltered two Hamas leaders.
Fighter jets also knocked out electricity and water supplies for most of the 1.3 million residents of the Gaza Strip. Three bridges also were destroyed to keep militants from moving Cpl. Gilad Shalit, 19, who was taken hostage Sunday by three Hamas-affiliated groups. [read more]

An excerpt: The officials said Assad was targeted because of the "direct link" between Syria and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group holding the soldier in the Gaza Strip. Syria hosts Khaled Meshaal, Hamas' exiled supreme leader.
There was no immediate reaction from Syria.

A Palestinian militant group said early Thursday it executed an 18- year-old Israeli settler kidnapped earlier in the West Bank. The statement from the Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza said the settler, Eliahu Asheri, had been executed.
The group, which has links to the ruling Hamas, had threatened to execute the Israeli if Israel did not halt its invasion of Gaza. [read more]

ZardozZ News writes "We did say hours on the last post! It certainly appears that the world might be witnessing the first stages in an all out war between Syria, Palestine and Israel. No doubt Iran will want to join in the action sooner rather than later. It will surely perceive Israel's fly over in Syria as reason enough to pursue its race to become a nuclear power in the area likely labeling Israel a renegade by subscribing to the U.S.'s "Preemptive Doctrine". I'll suspect we will hear from Tehran within hours as well.I found this interesting and have been checking all day on Iranian sites for a response from the crazy Pres. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in reference to Israel.
